![]() Is it only for enterprise websites or anyone can use it too? What is the CDN service and how to configure it for my WordPress website” and we will show you how to change the configuration for up to 50% faster loading website and better user experience. ![]() Tomorrow in the fifth day of the WordPress Week of Speed at WPCacheOn we will review the “ Content Delivery Network or CDN. Have you heard about WordPress revisions, pingbacks and trackbacks before? Do you use them or have any experience with pingbacks and trackbacks? We would love to hear this in the comment section. Disabling them all together is a quick fix that can speed up your site, as the WordPress software will not have to deal with them any longer.Īnd this is how in our fourth day of WordPress Week of Speed at WPCacheOn we have optimized the performance of our website easily with only a few clicks. Do not forget to press the “ Save Changes” button on the bottom of the page to preserve these changes. Once you are on this page simply deselect “ Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new articles” and “ Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article” checkboxes. IMPORTANT: Make sure that this line is added anywhere after the Settings > Discussion. All you need to perform is adding one line of code in your website wp-config.php file. Of course WordPress is built smart and it is easy to limit the number of revisions that WordPress keeps for each article. The better option is to reduce this limit to more practical value such as two or three. However when seek website speed we should not skip the post revisions.īy default, WordPress will save an unlimited number of revisions, however this is generally not needed. Luckily WPCacheOn is not from these plugins as our plugin do not interact with the database at all. It is known that the stored revision entries in the database could affect queries spawned by some plugins. As you can understand, this will also increase the size of your database considerably. For example, this means that an article with ten revisions will take up ten times as much room on your database than the actual article that was published. In addition to the autosave of the posts and pages, revisions are generated each time you save your articles. There is a WordPress revision system which allows you to return to old versions of articles, view them and even restore them. ![]() We can use this code in addition to the global value set above.Do you know what are WordPress post revisions, pingbacks and trackbacks and most important, how they affect our website speed? No? Just keep reading, keep reading. We’re going to hook into this filter by adding some code to the functions.php file of your child theme, or into a code snippet plugin. Setting a global limit for post revisions is all well and good, but what if you want to set a different limit for different post types? This is where we can use a handy built in WordPress filter called wp_revisions_to_keep. If you’re not sure how to do this, check out our handy guide on how to edit the wp-config.php file. Remember, this line of code goes into your wp-config.php file, not anywhere else. Just replace the number 5 with the number of post revisions that you want WordPress to keep. To specify a global number of post revisions, we just put the following line of code into our wp-config.php file: You can choose whatever number you like – 2, 10, 50 … whatever seems appropriate for you. ![]() I’ve chosen 5 because that seems like a sensible number to me – not too high and not too low. Lets say that we want to set it so that WordPress keeps 5 post revisions for all posts. The possibilities are endless (with a little conditional logic)! We can also disable post revisions entirely! Set a global number of post revisions We can even specify different number of post revisions for different post types. So, how can we go about stopping WordPress from keeping post revisions going all the way back to the dawn of our posts? Well, it’s actually really simple, and we can specify exactly how many post revisions we want WordPress to keep. That’s soon going to bloat your database. Pretty handy! However, by default WordPress saves an unlimited number of revisions, meaning that if you edit a post often, you could potentially have hundreds of revisions saved for just one post. These post revisions allow you to basically undo changes, by reinstating an older version of the post. You may have noticed whilst writing posts on your WordPress site that WordPress automatically saves old versions of your post, called post revisions.
